Nothing beyond the essentials is set until you say so.

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store. Similar technologies — local storage, pixels, software development kits — do comparable jobs. This policy covers all of them and uses "cookie" throughout for readability.
1. Our approach
Nothing beyond strictly necessary storage is set until you choose. Refusing is as easy as accepting: both are single buttons on the banner, presented with equal prominence. You can change your mind at any time using in the footer of every page.
2. The categories
Strictly necessary — always active
Required for the site to function. They deliver pages, keep the connection secure, and remember the cookie choice you made so you are not asked on every page. These cannot be switched off, because without them the site does not work.

Preferences — off by default
Remember settings such as your reading language so they are applied on your next visit. Without them the site still works; you simply set your preferences again.
Measurement — off by default
Count visits and page views so we know which guides are read and which are ignored. Reporting is aggregated; we are interested in which article is useful, not in who you are.

Advertising — off by default
Allow advertising partners, including Google, to measure campaign performance and, where applicable, to show advertising relevant to you on this and other sites. If you refuse this category, advertising may still appear but it is not personalised using these identifiers.

3. Consent signals
Your choice is not only stored locally. It is transmitted to advertising and measurement tags using Google Consent Mode v2, so those services receive an explicit instruction covering advertising storage, advertising user data, advertising personalisation and analytics storage. Before you choose, all of those signals are set to denied.
4. Withdrawing consent
- Open from the footer of any page.
- Clear the categories you no longer want and save.
- Cookies already set by third parties are removed through your browser's own settings; the sections below link to the instructions.
5. Browser controls
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies, and offers a private browsing mode that discards them when the window closes. The controls sit under Privacy or Security in browser settings. Blocking all cookies will break parts of most websites, including the ability of this one to remember that you declined.
6. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal of the advertising category. The older Do Not Track header has no agreed meaning and is not acted on separately.
7. Changes
If we add or change a category, we update this page and ask for your choices again. Consent records expire after six months in any case, so you are asked periodically even when nothing has changed.
